Cocopeat is the crushed powder of coconut, which is commonly used in horticulture and agriculture as a substrate for soilless cultivation due to its good water retention and breathability. Cocopeat is abundant in production and widely distributed in Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. However, fresh cocopeat has a high moisture content and is prone to spoilage. Therefore, before storing and transporting, its moisture content must be reduced. In order to reduce moisture content of cocopeat, what should we do?
Cocopeat dehydration by cocopeat dewatering and drying plant
Dehydration is the first step in increasing the value and resource utilization of cocopeat, and the cocopeat dehydration and drying plant is the necessary equipment to achieve this goal. The dehydration process of cocopeat is divided into two steps, primary dehydration and deep dehydration. The primary dehydration uses a cocopeat belt filter press, it uses mechanical dehydration to remove water, reducing the moisture content of cocopeat from 85% to 60%, and discharging it in the form of a filter cake. If you want to further reduce the moisture content of cocopeat, a cocopeat dryer is needed, it is rotary drum dryer, equipped with an efficient and energy-saving hot air stove. Wet cocopeat exchanges heat with heated hot air, and the moisture evaporates, quickly reducing the moisture content to below 15% for subsequent compaction, crushing, and storage.
Usages of dried cocopeat
After drying, the use of cocopeat varies greatly depending on the industry.
1. Horticulture and Agriculture
Dried cocopeat is commonly used as a soilless cultivation medium due to its excellent water retention, breathability, and drainage properties. It helps sandy soil retain moisture and nutrients for a longer period of time, promotes root growth, and improves soil fertility.
2. Industrial and Environmental Applications
Dried cocopeat has strong water absorption and can be used as an adsorbent material to absorb oil and chemical spills in workshops, garages, and factories. Due to being a natural biodegradable material, it is more environmentally friendly compared to synthetic adsorbents.
3. Livestock and pet care
Dried cocopeat is also commonly used as bedding for small pets, which can absorb moisture and odors, providing a good environment for animals to grow and thrive.
