The potato residue drying project in Shuangcheng, Harbin—constructed by Zhengzhou Jiutian—has recently commenced operations. As an agricultural by-product of starch processing, potato residue has high moisture content and is highly prone to spoilage. Indiscriminate stockpiling not only causes environmental pollution but also leads to the loss of the material's nutritional value and incurs high transportation and storage costs; addressing these issues has long been a pressing challenge for the local starch industry.
This project focuses on the need for volume reduction and resource recovery of potato residue, utilizing a continuous drying process designed for high-moisture material. The raw material enters the system with a moisture content of up to 80% and emerges with a stable moisture level of under 13%, achieving a dry material processing capacity of 0.3–0.5 tons per hour. Through drying and dehydration, the high-moisture fresh residue is transformed into a dry product that is easy to store and transport, allowing it to be repurposed as an ingredient for animal feed.
The implementation of this project effectively resolves industry pain points regarding the rapid spoilage and logistical difficulties associated with fresh potato residue. It converts a previously difficult-to-manage waste by-product into a usable resource, thereby alleviating the environmental pressure caused by solid waste accumulation. By recovering and utilizing potato residue, the project extends the starch processing value chain, increases the value of by-products, and promotes a circular economy for local agricultural solid waste—offering a mature, viable waste management solution for similar tuber processing enterprises.
