Types of BSG dryers

BSG is the residue of malt extract produced during the brewing process, accounting for 85% of the total brewing waste. Because of its high moisture content and short shelf life, it needs to be dried for storage. There are three mainstream equipment types on the market regarding BSG dryers.

1. Single Pass Rotary Dryer

The single pass rotary dryer is used to dry spent grain, because the material is only being heated once, so the dryer can effectively avoid excessive thermal degradation of protein and other nutrients in brewers grain, preserving more feed value.The material only passes through one heating zone inside the drum, this design can minimize the residence time of materials inside the drum, thereby reducing the risk of thermal degradation. By optimizing the heat exchange structure, fast heat transfer is achieved, usually with lower energy consumption.

2. Tube Bundle Dryer

Tube bundle dryer is composed of multiple heat exchange tube bundles, the heat medium (steam or hot oil) flows inside the tubes, and the hot air flows outside the tubes and comes into contact with the materials. The tube bundle dryer used for brewers grain drying, it is an indirect drying method, the tube bundle structure can effectively prevent scaling or coking inside the pipeline, making it suitable for long-term operation.

3. Steam Rotary Dryer

Steam rotary dryers Adopt a one-way or multi pass drum structure, the heat medium is usually steam. The hot medium flows inside the pipe, coming into indirect contact with the material. Steam rotary dryer is a suitable dryer for drying BSG, capable of processing larger particles or clumped materials present in brewers grain.

Different types of dryers have their own advantages.
